Dr. Kirubakaran Malapan has dedicated nearly two decades to serving in various capacities within the Ministry of Health Malaysia, spanning across esteemed government hospitals. Graduating with an MBBS degree from Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) in 1999, he completed his General Surgery training at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2008, followed by specialized training in Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery in Taiwan in 2013, and Breast & Endocrine Surgery in Malaysia in 2014.

At Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) in Ipoh, Dr. Kirubakaran played a pivotal role in establishing the Breast & Endocrine Surgery Unit and Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery services for the Perak State in 2014, subsequently becoming one of the referral centres for Ministry of Health (MOH) facilities. Beyond his clinical practice, he has also contributed significantly to academia through publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at scientific forums, workshops, CMEs, and public talks both locally and internationally.

Besides demonstrating commitment to advancing medical care. Dr Kirubakaran also held leadership roles in the Malaysian Medical Association (Perak Branch), serving as Vice Chairman from 2016-2017 and Chairman from 2017-2019.

In 2019, Dr. Kirubakaran embraced a new chapter in his career by establishing a private practice at Gleneagles Hospital Penang, Malaysia, where he specializes in General, Breast & Endocrine, and Bariatric Surgery. He co-founded the Penang Weight Loss Clinic & Surgery, emphasizing a Multidisciplinary Team approach for managing individuals living with obesity (PLWO) and associated medical conditions.
